I just saw this news.

I'm going to archive all my stories and essays, and I'm going to move the cooking school posts to my knitting blog, which can become a knitting and cooking blog. That would be http://mamadeb.wordpress.com.

Other than that, I'll just see where fandom goes next and follow the herd.

(I'm mamadeb on Facebook, btw, and I do have JF and IF accounts, but I haven't been on JF for well over a year.)

ETA: Debra Fran Baker on facebook.

It figures; just as you fall in love with a bakery, it closes. This feels so very New York. I save anything vaguely interesting anyway, esp. anything I write. But whither fandom goest has been a complicated guessing game all along. Just keeping up with friends is confusing enough.

That does look all kinds of Not Good. Especially right after they moved the servers to Montana.

Looks like it's time to do another backup to my InsaneJournal.

Do you have tools for that? I back up my journal using LJ Archive regularly, but I'd really rather have a backup out on the web somewhere. I have a GJ account (same codebase as LJ and IJ), but I'm not sure how to connect the dots.

Ah, well. I hope it holds off until I've slept, so I can back up. And I now have an IJ account, since I'm guessing that's the most likely exodus (fully functional LJ framework; if GJ had its act together, I'd have created one there, too).

(Hm. So tired I clicked the wrong usericon. Edited to correct.)

I suggest we wait to see something from a better source than Gawker, which seems to hate LJ and its weird users. Not to say this isn't accurate, but Gawker is not exactly my idea of trustworthy.

Their numbers are apparently wrong, but I've seen a couple of people who know the employees who got laid off commenting in various places.

CNet says it isn't quite that bad (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10132684-36.html). But not good, either.

I'd wait for some less-prone-to-sensationalise-everything source to report this before getting seriously worried, but it's definitely not good news. :\

ETA: ninja'd above.

If you really want to archive, which is never a bad idea anyway, there's a guide. But I agree with those who say that this is a wait-and-see thing, not a panicked fleeing thing.

Just when I was getting back into lj. I wonder if I'll switch over.
