Well, he has this ongoing not really midlife crisis background arc, that got worse with some shooting I think? (my memory isn't so great). Anyway, he's questioning his work, his relationships and such, so a while ago he started talking to a shrink, that grew out of some mandated session, but he stuck with that, but while he still sees that guy that wasn't enough, so then a few episoded ago he went to a synagogue at the end of the ep, and then in the eps after that other characters have talked with him about him turning to religion, like his father and his girlfriend (who was a bit bewildered last ep), and he mentioned talking to his rabbi about stuff? But he doesn't seem not sure yet whether religion is what he's looking for.
So I'm curious whether the series will stick with this, and make their main action hero somewhat more actively religious more long term, or whether he'll decide it's not a solution for him.
I don't think so. It seemed implied that she's an atheist who doesn't believe in anything, but I have no idea what religion if any her parents had. We haven't really seen that much of her, his girlfriends and the various exes that resurface change from season, though actually I think he's been with her for a while now, or maybe it was some on-and-off thing? I don't really pay that much attention to his relationships, and it is mainly a procedural after all, so it only crops up now and then.
