The doorbell rang. I hadn't dressed for the day.

My outfit? A light green fleece nightgown covered with very cute sheep (my husband's favorite. He's even named one of them), my dress skirt from yesterday, which is dark navy blue - first skirt I encountered - and my hair less-than-successfully tucked into a knit hat.

So. Do or don't? :)

Ah, let's make this a poll.

People coming over with no notice don't deserve fashion.

It was a Fedex guy delivering something.

I was half asleep once and answered the door for the UPS guy wearing a fifteen-year-old minnie mouse t-shirt and no pants. I don't think he even noticed.

With that outfit, I'd be more worried about the neighbors.

Fortunately my door's a bit hidden, so no one else stood a chance of seeing me. I kinda opened the door halfway and poked my head around it.

Yes, that's fortunate.

I open right onto the street. And this is Brooklyn - the streets are never empty.

Haha, that reminds me of the time last summer when I opened the door to the guys checkng plasterworks (ours is a new building) and I was wearing nothing but a sarong tied just above my chest. The foreman went "Oh, wow. Um. Um. Hello." I was o.O and then I laughed because I honestly didn't think anyone could *not* expect people to be dressed lightly in the kind of summer we get.

Better a sarong than a barong (http://www.geocities.com/insufferablebratt/Briscoe/lennie7.html). (a kind of Philippine short-sword from Law & Order 3-part episode "Judgment in LA")

My own solution? A loose kaftan hung up near the door. Seconds to put on over whatever I am or am not wearing, and it looks deliberate.

See, that makes sense. And I'd add a snood or something next to it, so instant haircover, too.
