Just got feedback for last year's Yuletide story.

She was doing random searching, and never heard of the fandom before.

It was Doonesbury. And, yes, it's the only one I've found, so really rare. But also - I'm glad she liked it, but I'm wondering just how generic it was.

Was this something you are getting published or is it already published?

This was a work of fanfiction I wrote for a story exchange last fall.

Just because someone not in the fandom liked it doesn't mean it was generic.

I have a friend who has never played a Silent Hill game who comments on just about all the Silent Hill fic I put up. And she likes them, and sometimes asks me to fill in some of the background for her.

And that's occasionally happened before in other fandoms.

It took me a moment to realize that, instead of never having read a story for Doonesbury before, the respondent had never heard of the comic. Meep.

However, maybe this means you conveyed the world of Doonesbury extra specially well, and now she'll go find and love the canon, instead of that your story was generic, since I doubt the latter.
