Can this election be over soon, please?
Mar. 19th, 2008 03:22 pm(Please note - I don't want a political argument here. I'm presenting what the election is doing to my marriage.)
I'm tired of arguing with my husband. We pretty much agree on everything politically, but he supports Obama and I am, apparently, the only person on my friendslist who supports Hilary Clinton. (I really do think she'd make a better president, although I wish she had Obama's skill with words.) And this has nothing to do with past or present connections - I made this decision before the New York primary.
Please don't try to convince me to change my views. I'm not exactly going to be holding my nose when I vote for Obama come November, and seriously, the two candidates are NOT so far apart in their views, with Clinton a tad more moderate (like me, as it happens.) However, I'm actually finding some Obama supporters' vehemence off-putting. That might well be the contrary part of my personality, though.
But, oh, my goodness, it's lonely here.

Which, btw, my husband is *not*.

Date: 2008-03-19 08:27 pm (UTC)When the Clintons were in charge, there were problems, but the country worked. The country needs to work again. Let Hillary fix it and then when she's had her two terms, Obama can do whatever he wants, but we need someone who knows how to do what needs to be done.

You Are Not Alone

Date: 2008-03-19 10:52 pm (UTC)But, yes. I think Clinton's experience does tell. Not to mention that she knows what she'll face if she gets the nomination - more fire to walk through - and she's willing to do that.
Which - my goodness. That's courage.

Date: 2008-03-20 12:16 am (UTC)Basically saying, yes, he gave a great speech, but I still want her to be president more. But that I was going to vote for him anyway if I had to.
I got a white man lecturing me on the fact that I shouldn't vote for somebody just because she's a woman- which I never said I did.
And somebody else gave this entire list of links showing how Obama is the new messiah.
And then a bunch of people agreeing.
I am just so tired of it. It's taken on the same aspects of a religious conversion attempt. I am an educated voter. I have looked into lots of things about both candidates. And I like Hilary Clinton better. Don't insult me by implying that I haven't done my research, and that one little link will magically flip the Obama switch.
Also, there is this attitude, that somehow, Hilary is hurting their feelings and being mean. If this is mean? I worry what is going to happen when John McCain's new employee Karl Rove gets started.....

Date: 2008-03-20 12:27 am (UTC)And, oh, my goodness. Those comments - those were ugly. And inaccurate and, frankly, libelous. Rather ungracious for people whose candidate is ahead.
And who would probably disagree with everything they said.
(And I can't tell you how glad my own friendslist wouldn't do that.)
lol
Date: 2008-03-20 12:31 am (UTC)Re: lol
Date: 2008-03-20 12:37 am (UTC)I don't think they will, or should. I'd far rather one was in the other's cabinet - Clinton would be a good secretary of state, for example.
