Three boys, Five Cars

Last night, at about 8:30, I was standing at the bus stop near my house. I'd just gotten there, in fact.

Just at that point, three very tall young men sauntered by. I pretty much ignored them, of course, until a police car with four people in it (I noticed it was full) stopped right in front of me. When I say stopped, I don't mean pulled in to the curb. I mean stopped in the middle of the right lane of Coney Island Avenue. An officer gets out, and starts calling the young men by name and ordering them against a nearby garage. I move away from the scene and keep watching for my bus, which was on the way. I very much *wanted* to watch, but didn't think it was a good idea.

However, as I waited for the bus and watched the traffic creep by around the patrol car, I could hear handcuffs and the boys being ordered to sit on the ground, and could see other patrol cars stopping and parking in odd angles. By the time my bus fought its way to the stop, there were five cars, and what looked like a dozen cops standing around the three boys, who were on the ground with their hands cuffed in front of them.

I have no idea what was going on there. I can see the need for backup, and for extra cars to transport them since the first was full, but *five*?

Sometimes there is overkill in how many cars the authorities send to emergencies. (At least around here there is; my friend fell off his bicycle and broke his collarbone and got the ambulance he needed but also a fire truck and a police car.)

I have to admit it does kind of sound like they somehow caught Butch Cassidy and two Sundance Kids though.

Sometimes that is because people often badly report what's going on. Also, you end up with firetrucks sometime because virtually eveery firefighter is at *least* a first responder and many are EMT or paramedic... they're closer.

I hope it didn't sound like I was criticizing emergency responders... it just seemed like he didn't need all three, though he was grateful to get the help he needed.

No, I didn't think you were What I was saying is its' not uncommon for somene to say, send an ambulance... but there is a crashed car next to them, that requires a police report. People in emergencies don't alwasy give all the information.

Three men, already handcuffed. The initial car sounds full, so maybe three more cars, one per person. But five? Waste of resources - suppose something serious was going down elsewhere?
