I am a lousy gift giver. I want to give good presents, but it's hard for me to figure out what people might want. And, well, not fond of being pressured into the December frenzy, either.
But there is the family Chanukah party coming up, and my nephew has a November birthday, so there must be presents. So. I bought gifts.
The unofficial rules of the family Chanukah party are that you get gifts for immediate family and for all children under college age. At the moment, there are three boys between nine and twelve, plus the three little ones. (Zoë was amazed at her first one last year - Jonathan's family is nothing if not welcoming and generous, so she got a mountain of presents. Which, as a four year old, she was quite old enough to appreciate.) So. Benjamin, who is eleven or so, is getting the Ultimate Fantastic Four Vol. 1. Leo (10)is getting the boxed set of "The Shadow Children." Jomack, 12, is getting two volumes of the Lightning Thief series. (I also bought my own nephew, also twelve, two volumes of Nancy Farmer's Sea of Trolls series. Next year - Scott Westmoreland.)
I did find a couple of books for Jonathan, plus I bought him (he knows all about it) both an Aran sweater from LL Bean *and* the wool so I can knit him a pullover. I just feel the need to knit a sweater.
While at Darkover, we found a menorah pin, which will be perfect for my mother-in-law, who collects such things, and I bought Zoë a firelizard.
