I just want to make that clear.

I haven't talked about it much, but somewhere around midseason or so I started watching Friday Night Lights, mostly because, you know. People were talking about it and people were writing fic, and then I caught an episode or so and it was amazing and I kept on watching.

Thank goodness for streaming video.

But I haven't tried to catch up - just watch the episodes that air that week and that's about it. And so, I watched the season finale. And it was amazing and all.

And so. I had some time and decided to watch the pilot, to start catching up.

I think I started crying when Lyla told her father she loved him. Or maybe when I saw a certain quarterback believing he'll ride the bench forever. Or Tyra thinking of herself as goods to pass around, or Jason being whole and healthy. I don't know. I don't know what it would be like to watch this and *not* know where these kids and grownups are going, but knowing it made hurt, but also - there's hope and that's good.

I'd hate be be a non-Christian in that town, though. :)

This is very exciting! I have been loving FNL since very early in the season and the fic has totally sucked me in. It's a pretty good fan community too...let me know if you need any recs.

Someday I ought to watch a couple episodes, just because it was filmed locally. (I'm trying to remember if it was FNL or something else that had scenes filmed at the diner where we usually go after Monday night folk dance.)

They're all available at nbc.com right now...not sure how long that will last or they're also available via iTunes.

Woo-Hoo! We have another Rally Girl in the house. (They have all the fun!)

And um, it would kind of suck to be a Catholic in that town, too. Not quite as bad as a non-christian, but it wouldn;t be easy.

Hee!

I was wondering about that - I saw a lot of signs in Spanish at one point, but no one on the team seems to be anything but white or black. So, yeah, Catholic wouldn't be too easy, either.

(And remember - anyone Orthodox couldn't take part in the only thing that this town cares about, unless they can walk to the games and not need to carry tickets Not that I expect an Orthodox contingent *there*.)

Forgive my goyische curiosity: would showing a season pass be permissible? You would have paid for it in advance, and while tickets usually have a price printed on them, season passes don't. Or would both be equally considered too much like actual cash to be allowed?

The problem would be carrying the season pass from one's house to the stadium.

After all, I wear con badges, which amount to the same thing at conventions.

A few episodes in it's clear that there's at least one Hispanic member of the team, named Reyes. But I don't know if he's Catholic.

But I was definitely thinking that I was glad I didn't live in that town, both for the pervasive Christian prayer aspect as well as the "football rules all" part.
