It's 2PM on Friday afternoon. Shabbat comes in at 4:30.

Am I running around shopping and cooking and getting things ready? No, I am not. This is because I actually was *organized* this week. I did the majority of my shopping on Wednesday. I did the majority of my cooking last night - chicken with rosemary and balsamic vinegar, spinach pasta (and that while also making last night's dinner of "Fisherman's Pie" - a casserole of mashed potatoes, french cut beans and canned tuna. Go me.), and steamed some precut carrots this afternoon. They are all in the fridge. Come 4:30, I'll put them all in a warm but not hot oven, with a bit of margarine for the pasta, and by dinner time, they'll be just the right temperature and not overcooked.

Let's see if I can manage this next week.

I'm envious! I'll never be that organised. It's probably genetic or something.

Me? I finally got a contraption that keeps water hot enough for coffee! No more stale from a thermos on Shabbat morning.

Shabbat Shalom!

Genetic? Try desperation. I'm going to be working on Thursdays for the foreseeable future, so if I want to have a decent Shabbat dinner, I have to do it this way. And I have never done this before.

As for coffee: we have a contraption hot enough to make coffee. We use it to make coffee, as it turns out that the water from those nice thermal urns is just the right temperature if you're using a manual drip. However, that means we can't use it to make real coffee on Shabbat, even with a second cup. So our choices are instant or, as you put it, stale coffee from a thermos.

Even stale coffee from a thermos tastes better than instant. I don't own instant. I do make the coffee extra strong, though, so the dilution makes it bearable. It also helps to use a metal thermos, which holds the heat better.

Shabbat Shalom!
