DO NOT have a spelling mistake in the title - and do NOT have the title be the plot of the story.

I don't mind depressing stories, and while I'm not happy reading relationship trainwrecks, I will read them sometimes.

But not if it's in the title.

And especially not if the title is spelled wrong.

It's always amusing when they misspell the characters names. And I don't mean in anime fandoms where you can debate the English spelling. I mean in stuff like Harry Potter where if you're on the internet you can look it up within seconds.

(OK, I got a character's name wrong in a fic once. But when someone pointed it out I was embarrassed as heck and fixed it.)

I've seen titles and summaries that made me shudder. I kept hoping they were jokes, and a couple of them were, but usually it's just people that can't be bothered writing coherently.

Sorry, too much time reading [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants. I'm done now.

Oh, yes. Misspelling HP or media names - makes no sense to me, but I see it all the time.

I was editing a fandom newsletter yesterday, and one of the stories had a "title" (it was a full sentence!) that should have been the story's summary. *sigh* People just don't have a clue sometimes, do they?

No, not really.

On the other hand, it's a decent shot that I'm not reading a really bad story - clueless people don't tend to write awfully well, do they?

You mean like "Savrus Snap kills his troo wub Dumbledoor?" A spoiler AND a spelling mistake? That is usually a bad sign.
