The meme I can never do:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually nearest to you (We already know you, no use trying to be pretentious)

Why? Because there is sort of a hutch on the computer desk (actually, the top half of a bookcase) and it's filled with books. Not only is there no "closest" book, but most of them are in Hebrew, or are Hebrew/English or Aramaic/English dictionaries. Le Sigh.

Hee! I can't do this one either, at least not today; the only book actually on my desk (clearly the nearest to where I sit) is a book of Elizabeth Bishop poems, and it doesn't go as far as 123 pages. *g*

I'm posting in your journal because it would be way too boring to even bother with posting in mine. :-p

Last time this meme ran around the only book near me was a siddur and page 123 was the Kedushah.

This time it's Tractate Avodah Zarah.

IOW, I feel your pain. {smile}

My husband tells me that he just grabs a book at random and if it's in Hebrew, he translates. I'm not that good.

Last time I didn't feel like admitting that the closest book was some pop children's almanac. (Though what the shame in that is, I don't know.) This time it's Trigun, Volume 1 (a manga) and there are no full sentences on page 123.

It's hard to say. I mean, if you only count sentences that have English words, then "[angle]2 and [angle]4 are complementary." But that's the third of four answer choices, all of which are mathematical sentences....

Yeah, well, right now the closest book is a Tanya, and given the Alter Rebbe's style in writing run-on sentences, there aren't three full sentences on the page, because while the first two full sentences seem to have a reasonable length, the third sentence runs for 3/4 of the page, and on into the next page, about 2/3 of the way down, so that's why I have trouble with the meme right now, as this run-on sentence demonstrates.
