Today, being Thursday and all, I didn't work. My job is only three days a week, which is perfect for me - it gives me Thursdays to run errands and do laundry and Fridays to prepare for the Sabbath. And, of course, it meant I didn't have to go back to work after my vacation until Monday, unlike my husband who worked Friday.

The office was cold when I got in on Monday, but I'd had the foresight to wear a very warm/heavy sweater, so I was fine. No heat, you see. The phone company people discovered a number of gas leaks, and it turns out the boiler needed repairs.

There was still no heat on Tuesday, but Tuesday was in the midforties and sunny, and I wore layers, so I was fine. Other people were chilly, but I can tolerate cold.

Wednesday, the owner finally sent in a plumber to repair the heat. Wednesday was cold and rainy and nasty and ugly, and my layers didn't help. And the plumber shut off the water and began the job, but realized he needed to buy more supplies and really should have gotten a deposit. So he called the owner. And the owner refused to give him a deposit. So the plumber stopped working and called his boss.

And there we were. No heat and no water.

And the boss spoke to the owner and the owner threatened him with lawyers for the effrontery of asking for payment. At which point, the plumber and his boss undid whatever they did, leaving the water turned off by necessity, and left.

My bosses called the city, who *will* fix the heat and hot water and then they'll sue the owner for reimbursement and damages. But I'm home today. Where it is dry and warm and I have my own thermostat and there is unlimited water.
