I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your fic, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

I am by nature very much an owl; say "diurnal" to me and I'm likely to filk a Pesach song. My family and I have a relationship based directly on the number of miles apart we live. The first time I got beaten up enough to leave a scar was in kindergarten, right across my nose. It's not big, but it's still visible. It made me hate bullies, and I've always stood up to them. I've gotten more scars over the years because of that, but I like how they look on me. They're my marks of honour.

I've lived in Washington, DC for nearly 6 years now, and I still think of myself as a left-coast, western-US person. I think I always will.

When I was little one of my family's nick names for me (well iirc mostly my dad used it) was "Tüffelchen," (*) which actually isn't all that nice all things considered, even if it's a diminutive. And I don't think I deserved it either. I wasn't that clumsy.

(*) a diminutive of "Tüffel" which in some Low German dialects means literally potato, but is also a name for a slow, clumsy, inept person

I love spinach on my pizza, and I can make a kick-ass vegetarian lasagna with large quantities of spinach, mushrooms, and cheese, but I rarely can be bothered to actually go to the work of *making* it. In other words, I *can* cook, but I usually choose not to ;-)

when I was maybe 5, I fell out of bed (ok, I was goofing off and overreached myself) and split my lip on the laminate corner of the girly bedside table. after stitches, it mostly didn't show for years, but as I age, the scar's becoming more and more visible.

I spent about six months trying very hard to be completely shomer Shabbat and keep kosher (I allowed myself to eat vegetarian plus fish in nonkosher restaurants). I still will not eat shellfish or pork, or mammal meat with dairy, and I will not do paying work on Shabbat.
