The dermatologist who did my laser treatment told me that I have to wear sunscreen of at least spf 35.

I couldn't find that, so I got Neutrogena SPF 45. Neturogena - has to be safe, right?

I put it on faithfully yesterday - before Pakua, after Pakua (lots of sweat), and after my shower when I got home (no showers in the dojo.)

And my face - well, my left cheek, but also other places - is covered in pimples. I mean, big and painful. I scrubbed the stuff off last nigh with soap and water, and then used astringent to clear up what was left. And that seems to have helped - they're redder but smaller. And they still hurt and I'm doing my best to keep my hands off them.

What do I do now? Anyone have any suggestions for a noncomedogenic sunblock? I have very sensitive skin that reacts to pretty much anything. It's also oily and I never wear anything on it normally. Basically, I want somethign that *isn't* waterproof.

Because today is cloudy and tomorrow I'm wearing a hat with a big brim, but Sunday is supposed to be nice. I'll need it by then.

Ouch.

Can't your dermatologist give you something (prescription if necessary) that will do the job and not cause an allergic reaction?

That's what I'm wondering.

But I don't think it's an allergy. Allergies would produce hives on me. I used to react to everything with hives.

I think it was clogging my pores. My skin is oily even now, and I had a nasty crop of acne when I was in junior high. Which is why I want a nonwaterproof sunblock.

Try using Oatmeal - homebrew health care. You can make a paste with the Quaker Oats brand oatmeal (o-u) without any additives, and use this to wash your face. Mix with either skim-milk or water until the oatmeal starts to get soft. It is supposed to be really good. When my wife was pregnant with our second child, she broke out everywhere and this really helped.

Just a thought.

You could try Oil of Olay Daily Protectant. It's only SPF 15, but if you reapply it every so often it should do for you.

Other things I've had luck with - the Neutrogena spray stuff, not the cream (less greasy by far), Hawaiian Tropic Baby Faces.

Might baby/kid sunscreen work?

I have exactly the same problem. I've never found a sunscreen that doesn't leave me with pimples all over my face. The best answer that I found was to try to remember to wash (or at least rinse) my face every time I needed to reapply sunscreen.

There are some specific "face" sunscreens out there, but they're mostly set up to moisturise. That just makes my breakouts even worse.

Unfortunately, Neutrogena is about the best that I've ever found. I recommend that you ask your dermatologist, and please share if you get a good recommendation.

It may be that you have allergies to one or more of the ingredients. T and I use the Nature's Gate sunscreens, with extracts of grapeseed, wild pansy and coffee. This brand is PABA free, and has worked for children who also react to the usual sunscreens. A natural food store should have this brand. Another natural brand name is Jason's. They come in spf 30, I don't know about higher, but a hat is always a good idea, even when it's cloudy. :-) :

I'd call the dermatologist who did the laser. I'm sure she's had other patients with the same problem, and could recommend or prescribe something.

Or, don't wear sunscreen, and don't leave the house. ;-)

Did you use the dry-touch one? my cousin has a lot of breakout problems and uses that. Otherwise I don't know what to say
I was one of those people who didn't get acne. (Until I turned 19, but not really acne, just an occasional pimple.)

She (cousin) offers more advice. use astringent and then a liquid acne treatment with salylic acid and then the sunscreen. I usually do this when i treat a pimple because otherwise my skin would burn where I applied the S-acid stuff, and that makes it worse, it doesnt seem to affect the treatment. (this is with the 30 spf neutorgena dry-touch. Which you may or may not have said didn't work for you.
