Call from Doctor
Apr. 23rd, 2009 01:59 pmI went to my doctor's on Monday for blood work. *Dispays still spectacular bruising on inner elbow as proof.*
I just a call asking me to come in. Because. I have a Vitamin D deficiency.
I eat cottage cheese and yogurt for most breakfasts, and I've been having cereal and cow's milk for the last couple of days. I'm mildly lactose intolerant, so I don't really drink much milk. I've heard that spinach, which I love, might cause problems in absorbing D.
I guess I'll have to ask her what I should do about this. Also, if that's her main worry, my A1C is probably good. :)

Date: 2009-04-23 06:51 pm (UTC)Last year I had a scary low D level (14? FAR below the bottom range of normal); my HCP put me on RX strength supplements for a few months. That normalised it. (I think the first RX was 100,000 IUs/day, but I had to drop down to 20-30,000/day or I got leg cramps.)
OTC strength is usually 1,000 IU.
Currently I take 20,000 twice a week, and that's keeping me in the mid-range of normal.
