Comment on this post and I'll tell you five subjects/things I associate with you. Then you post them in your lj and elaborate. No need to pass the meme on, unless you want to.
[livejournal.com profile] browngirl had these words:

Precise religious observance (I mean something more technical, but can't remember any of the words I'd properly use):
Not totally sure what you mean by this, but - observance is important to me, and implicit in that is paying attention to the details. And it also means knowing how far one has to go. I'm lazy - I'm not going to do further than the basic. :)

Knitting : playing with sticks and string. Making pretty things, doing something interesting with my hands while soft wool goes through them. Calming my brain so I can think, keeping my hands busy so I can concentrate. Using numbers to make something real. Connection to my mother and grandmother and the girls in literature. So many things.

New York City : There is no other city. It's not the biggest or the most populous, it's not the world center for art or food or music - just finance and that's not so hot anymore. But it is the World City, it is the city of immigrants and the strength they bring, it's where all of those things happen. It's alive and the only other place I'd live is Jerusalem.

Green Lantern: It's a title - the police force of the galaxy. It's a mantle - Hal and John and Guy to Kyle and back to them again. It's my first comic crush - Hal had brown eyes when no one else did because brown was hard in the old precomputer days. It's intensely human and flawed heroes doing what they can with unshakeable will. It's Kyle being betrayed by DCU after carrying all by himself, to someone of no consequence at all.

Non-dairy creamer ;): a necessary evil until they perfect a way to clone milk.

I still can't remember the word I meant for the first one, but it's okay, because you niftily replied anyway. :)

Today is my day for being made nostalgic about NYC. I've always loved that I grew up in a city of immigrants, that I saw how like me so many people who looked and sounded different really are. I still remember crying at a movie about Ellis Island because I felt so strongly about being part of that story.

I'm glad I asked you about the Green Lanterns, too; I love how you view them. But then I'm glad I gave you all these words.

Here's to knitting, and better non-dairy creamer. :) (Have you tried hempmilk? It's very nutty but pretty good.)

New York(x2) is the de facto capital of the Modern World.
I've never been there, but I completely believe that.

Out of curiousity, have you ever lived anywhere besides NYC?

You're not "just basic" in your religious observance. Scarves. Elbows. Study - both gemara (not basic halacha) and bible (not pat literalist midrash). Someone who takes all the leniencies is just as off-balance as one who takes all the stringencies. Most of us are a mix of leniency and stringency, as we feel works for us.
