We've been having problems with our landline - we haven't been receiving calls-in for a couple of weeks. The phone is on the old side, so we thought that was the problem - our DSL is attached to our landline, and it's working just fine.
(And we're current on the telephone bill.)
We simply made all our calls from our cellphones.
But we decided to get a new cordless phone.
jonbaker bought one on Friday and we were going to install it Saturday night. There was no dial tone on the phone, but, you know. Old phone. Even so, we decided to test the line using a corded phone we have for emergencies (like blackouts, since cordless phones do not work during blackouts but regular ones do. So do wireless, but they'll run out of juice sooner than later.)
No dial tone.
So, I called Verizon Sunday morning, and this morning they tested the line. Yep, yep, yep. Old wiring in a box down our block. Tonight, we call to reassure parents that we're alive and well.
