It's not that the stories are extraodinarily well-written, although they are. It's not the promise of 25 days of *two* well-written stories which makes 50 well-written stories, although that doesn't hurt ONE LITTLE BIT.

It's that after I read the Team Angst story and am therefore a quivering hunk of wibble and hurt and broken, I can read Team Romance, and all is cute and happy and fun.

So. THANK YOU.

I think you hit exactly why I have a problem with it, or mostly with the Team Romance side, because Romance doesn't have to equal fluff but it seems to be what most of the writers are expressing in their stories and its frustrating. Meanwhile, Team Angst seems to know that angst stories don't have to only contain angst to be good. In fact the best stories have both.

I think that's more a fault of the source material - plenty of room for angst in the SGA universe, but I think John and Rodney's idea of romance is sharing a candy bar while playing a video game.

I'm imagining an "I love you" scene...

John and Rodney are sitting at a just-set-up chess board. John has white.

John: Um, Rodney. I...I have something to say to you.

Rodney: Oh, good, because I've been wanting to talk to you about something that has just, well... come up. I know we're supposed to be best friends...we are best friends, right?

John: What? Rodney, we spend practically every waking moment together. Of course, we're best friends. And that...um. I do need to say...

Rodney: Oh, good. So I think that if things changed, and I mean for the better, not the worse, although maybe for you it would be the worse, in which case I'm making the biggest mistake of my life, except for that whole blowing up a solar system thing, but if it could be better, then I'd be stupid for not doing this, and I'm not stupid.

John: Things change? What are you talking about? Not that change would be bad, necessarily. Rodney, I just need to tell you this, okay? Then you can.

Rodney: Oh, God. You don't want to be friends anymore? Even if I haven't told you?

John: Rodney, listen to me. Please. I...friends. MOre than friends. Rodney, I...I...

Rodney: Oh. Oh...Touches John's face. Are you trying to say you...?

John: Nods, scared,

Rodney: Smiles. I do, too. Really.

John: Sits back and makes opening gambit. Good.

They continue the game, which John wins.
