I watched and loved this last year, so I'm watching it again now.

And, yeah - it's people dressed in ridiculous costumes pretending to have superpowers trying to be in a comic book (and have a movie, and be an action figure), so it's silly.

But it's not about the costumes or the fake powers or that sort of thing. It's about being heroic - which is really, and I think Stan Lee would agree with this phrasing - being a mench. Being a decent person - one who works with a team, who doesn't give up, one who cares about others - and acts on it. A person who does the task at hand instead showing off, but who is willing to stop to help someone else.

When one person - a police dectective calling himself The Defuser - sought out another contestent to give her strength and reassurance, that was being a hero. He's also a leader, and that's part of it, too.

It's ironic that Mr. Mitzvah was one of those who showed the least menchlechite - he's arrogant and stand-offish, and that's not a mench. He was in the bottom three according to Mr. Lee, and while I'm glad he stayed, it would have been fair for him to leave.

I like watching a show about being decent, you know?

Maybe he'll learn? If the guy with the Hebrew name is arrogant and standoffish, how does that make the rest of us look?

Hi, hope you don't mind me friending you. I watch Who Wants To Be A Superhero too and there just aren't enough people talking about it. Sure it's a little silly, but I think it's a positive reality show compared to some of them, promoting ideas like heroism, selflessness and bravery.

The Defuser showed good leadership with Whipcrack when she was crying, I agree. That's being a teammate, not a competitor. I think Mister Mitzvah went into this with more of a regular reality show mindset, there to win, not make friends.

I love the show! I watched last year and have the Feedback comic. And I got Feedback's & Fat Mama's autographs this past New York Comic-con.

I'm half thinking of doing the auditions next year if they do it again at the NYCC.

I actually like this show a lot, for all the reasons you mentioned.

In fact, I'll go as far as to say, it brings up the importance and value of moral choices and how the decisions we make will have cause and consequence to others, both being excellent life lessons.

I actually watched it tonight for the first time, and it was alright. A higher quality than most reality TV, as you said the goal is for them to be decent people instead of backstabby competitors. I thought some of the people were sort of crazy/stupid, cos they seemed genuinely surprised to find out that Stan Lee was actually okay and not drowned, but...that's part of it, I guess.

I still prefer my trashy reality show, Big Brother, because it's, to me, a more effective character study (and that's actually how I view the show...)

It's the overuse of Yiddish that gets me.

On the other hand, treif is his Kryptonite, which is very cool.

You're welcome to friend me.

I think you're right about Mr. Mitzvah - he probably didn't see last year's series and thought this was going to be a different sort of show.

It's more like Top Chef, I think - they're being judged on their skills. It's just that the skills they're being judged on are intangible.

Cool! What hero name?

Tongue of Death (maybe not a good choice - death not being positive.) SuperTongue?

Exactly. And you end up with genuinely nice people.

I've tried to get into Big Brother, but it hasn't grabbed me.

Mostly, I think, from the sheer horror of being forced to spend all that time in a house with strangers without BOOKS!

I'm thinking the boredom factor is high on Survivor, too.

Hehe! Actually, go in a completely different direction. NightStar, with powers over the night and dreams.

True, that would suck a lot. That's why they're always plotting! Nothing better to do, lol. :)
