DH tracking

I'm not. You know why I'm not? Because there's nothing to track. It's been delivered to what I assume are FedEx's headquarters in Brooklyn, and it's sitting. And I will know no more about it until I get it sometime tomorrow.

I expect to get it early in the morning, but if I don't, I'll probably just go to synagogue, and then to lunch with friends on our block. Even if I do get it, and so skip shul, I will put it down around 11:30 or so and go on to our friends'.

What's cute is that the kids next door are already bugging me to tell them who dies. If they could, they'd go to a midnight party. So would I. Ah, well.

I do understand why they're doing it this way - honestly, Friday night is, for the vast, vast majority of people, the best night for this.

But it doesn't mean I don't feel a tad left out.

Am I allowed to remind you that we have Shabbos and that by itself is something better than any book? Or do I sound too much like a right wing nut?

You're absolutely right, of course. I wouldn't trade Shabbat for anything. That's what's stopping me from violating it in this way - not just because it's a mitzvah, but also because losing Shabbat would be dreadful all by itself.

But sometimes I'm a small child who doesn't want to be left out. Which is why I go nuts in December. I'm not proud of it, but there it is.

When Half-Blood Prince was released, when I was even less observant than I am now, I went to the bookstore. It was extremely crowded, not particularly fun, and eventually I got bored and wandered over to the supermarket to actually buy the book.

This year I ordered it from Amazon, for religious reasons. Sure, I'd rather have it at midnight, but other than that I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

My only concern is that the UPS people seem to never bother to find out if I'm home but rather deliver the package straight to the manager. (And then I have to see if the manager is in to get it.) Usually I'm glad of that because I sleep days but this time I really hope they come knock on the door. But I'm going to try not to worry about it too much.

Morgan and I will collect our copies from B&N after havdallah (we're Reform, so that's 6pm rather than Sundown) tomorrow. But we resisted the temptation to do it tonight, which would have caused us to miss Torah Study, lunch with friends, etc. . . i.e. the stuff that counts on Shabbos. And yes I use computers on Shabbos, just don't ask me to fix one.
