IRC and Candy and Work

Yesterday I uninstalled mIRC from my work computer. I had to do it - I'm getting a whole new system next week. I don't want it on the hard drive when we transfer the files. And I will not d/l it to the new computer - I'm under instruction not to d/l any programs.

So, I might as well get used to not having IRC at work. And, I have to say, today went rather quickly - even more so considering that I don't normally work on Thursdays. However, the Thursday-Friday person was fired last week. It wouldn't be such a problem if I were either used to working on Thursdays, and so had a routine, or if the clocks hadn't just changed, such that Shabbat comes in at 4:30 this week.

Anyway, I missed IRC and the various people there terribly, but I think I'll get used to it. And I *was* very productive.

Today being Hallowe'en and all, I'm also in charge of the candy. In this neighborhood, it's become customary to trick or treat in the stores along the major shopping streets instead of at houses, and we're one of the stores, even if what we sell is housing. I have a wicker laundry basket filled with little candies under my desk, tantalizing me with the smell of chocolates that I can't eat. It's under my desk to protect it from marauding young real estate agents, one of whom has a monster mask prepared so he can growl at the kiddies.

And it's just 4PM, and we've already had several groups of kiddies come in. Since I didn't buy the candy and I will not have to hand any out when I get home - very few families in my neighborhood do Hallowe'en at all, preferring to wait until March and Purim for the costumes and such - I won't get bored of it. So, it's fun.

One of the marauding young agents has just taken the basket so he can do all the giving out. In a couple of hours there will be a homegrown parade, too.
