Because we got invited to both meals on Shabbat, [livejournal.com profile] jonbaker requested that instead of going out on Sunday (our normal "date night"), we have a home-cooked meal. Since I was planning to do that *anyway*, and we had a general synagogue meeting at 7PM, I went along with it. He wanted steak. Which was fine by me, since steak is easy to cook.

We spent the afternoon taking care of the sukkah - first undecorating (while I shopped) because the landlady, who lets us store it in her garage, wasn't home to open the garage for us, so we couldn't put it away. Then, as it got later, taking apart the sukkah *anyway*, storing those parts we didn't want to get wet in the front foyer, in case it rained. Then she got home, so we could put it away properly, leaving us with just enough time to cook the prime ribs I'd purchased and eat them before the meeting.

The rest of the dinner was frozen string beans and red potatoes roasted with black pepper, rosemary, salt and a drizzle of olive oil. And the steaks were delicious. I know how to cook my steaks well-done, and I've learned how to cook medium ones for Jonathan.

The meeting was...eh. Not that many people showed up. Even part of the board didn't come. This is not surprising - this is our first Sunday in a month (the one before Yom Kippur doesn't count) so people were doing things. Sukkah take down, like us, or simchas or just doing things.

If it hadn't been for the meeting, we'd've visited my mother, for example.

Tonight, I'm making stewed chicken. In fact, thanks to the magic of crockpots, I'm making it now. :) It just takes a little forethought. If everything is prepared ahead of time, you just dump stuff in in the morning. I even put the peppercorns, bay leaves and dried rosemary in with the onions and celery. I forgot the carrots, though. I think I'll microwave them and put them in the crockpot when I get home.
