Then, if we celebrate Christmas, we are being rebels. If we send out Christmas cards we are being subversive.....[slowly widening evil grin]

Christmas trees and wreaths for all!!!! String those lights!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the waaaaaayyyyY!!!!!

Heh. No see, if you want to be all clandestine about it you ought to adopt the socialist codes for Christmas products, like when they called "Weihnachtsengel" (i.e. Christmas angels) officially "geflügelte Jahresendzeitfigur" (i.e. winged end of the year figurine) in the GDR... :)

Hey, I'm a wiccian and only celebrate Christmas cause my relatives celebrate it. Then again, I like giving presents. I'll celebrate any holiday that celebrates Life.

LOL! I just posted the first one that if celebrating Christmas is illegal and subversive, that I would do it loud and proud. Hey, I'm Wiccian myself and just like the decorations because they liven up the grey winter days.

You said you passed on the Christmas decorations, so I offered you a menorah- that is the correct spelling?- in place of them.

Ahh.

But a chanukiah is NOT a decoration, although it can be decorative.

I didn't pass on the decorations. I passed on the celebration of Christmas, even for rebellious reasons.

Well, after reading that satire about police forces breaking down doors and confiscating xmas stuff, and the article also sort of making fun of politically correct language like "holiday tree", I then imagined kind of subversive cells using code words, disguising their language and such to pass on outlawed Christmas merchandise, and to me the socialist terms are just very funny examples for "politically correct" language that doesn't change the substance of things.

code words? Happy fish day! (as in ichthys). Are you going to the midnight fishing expedition? Did you put up your tarragon fish (xmas tree)?

I think this was funny, actually, and a greta kick in the butt to all those politically correct people out there.
Did you know that it was forbidden to celebrate Christmas in England during the reign of Cromwell?

Then you didn't see the news story about this older woman who wanted to put a Nativity display in her building's lobby? It already had a Christmas, er, pardon, Holiday tree and a menorah. When the building board (or whatever it was) said no, she pointed out the menorah. The board's response- the menorah was a "secular" display.

As I was reading the paper on the subway I had to surpress my laughter. If this goy knows a menorah is not a secular item......

I thought it was a kick in the butt to the conservatives who are so afraid that Christmas will disappear if stores and others acknowledge that not everyone is a Christian.

But I could be wrong.

(quietly) Uh, HK, are you on drugs?

Why are you jingle-belling in the journal of someone who has posted and written frequently and eloquently about how deathly sick she is of having Christmas cheer forced on her against her will? Who, subversively, swims against this tide of Christmas cheer every freaking year?

Hon, it was a joke. The Onion article was talking about outlawing Christmas and all things Christmas. If one decorated for Christmas, then one is a subversive. But on a much less nasty level than that family that has Santa Claus as a mass murder.

He's just an antisemite. Or rather, he just doesn't deliver to houses where they don't, in however watered-down fashion, celebrate the supposed birth of Yoshke. Even if they don't actually believe in any of it.
