Cooking fail
Jan. 26th, 2010 10:55 pmI've been making mashed potatoes for years, and I make them at least once a week or so at work. I salt the water, add cut up potatoes, put the pot on the fire and bring it to a boil. I let it cook until the potatoes are soft, and I mash them with the cooking water. I usually need to add salt as well as pepper
I don't know what happened this time, but this time, the potatoes were inedibly salty. Maybe it was too much salt in the water; maybe I let them cook too long. Maybe I had too few potatoes - I've gotten used to cooking five pounds at a time. I know I didn't ADD salt.
The chicken (airline filets - breast cutlets with the skin and the first wing joint. I butchered chickens this afternoon. I love dismembering chickens) came out perfect. The string beans were string beans.
Ah, well.
