Happy Birthday!

Happiest of birthdays to happyfunpaul and to all the other Yankee Doodle Dandies out there.

A happy 4th of July to those who celebrate it, and a happy Wednesday to everyone else.

July 4th thought

Last night, Keith Olbermann had another Special Comment, in which he went on national television and demanded the resignation of both Bush and Cheney.

And THIS is the strength of our nation and our constitution - he did so without fear of retribution - he is free, alive and employed this morning.

It doesn't matter if you cheered at what he said or wanted to throw stuff at the screen. Certainly, people have said things as bad about Clinton and other former presidents while they were in office. And they were also left free, alive and employed. As they should have been. Roosevelt was roundly criticized all through his administration. As he should have been.

We take these basic freedoms for granted in this country. And that is one of our strengths.

And whether you support Bush or hate him, that strength remains.

Dazed and confused

I am having the hardest time wrapping my brain around the idea that today is Wednesday,not Sunday, and that therefore tomorrow is Thursday and so I am NOT working tomorrow (I work Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except that I didn't work today and today felt totally like Sunday.)

I get this same feeling with midweek religious holidays, except that then it feels like an extra Shabbat instead.

Also, we had burgers, roasted rosemary potatoes and green beans with Sam Adams Boston Ale for dinner tonight, and I rarely, if ever, drink beer. So there's that, too.

But 1776 is on now, so I'm going to watch that.
