As of last night, they think he has congestive heart failure (which they thought was his asthma acting up - it can mask that way) plus some arrhythmia. He also has ten pounds of edema - *wow*.
He's alert and aware, and horribly bored. They're going to keep him there for a few days to make sure the drugs (diuretics and blood thinners) work and to find out if he has any clots - apparently if left untreated for a while, there's a real danger of clots forming, and this has been going on for a couple of weeks.
My mother-in-law is also fine, or so she claims. She's going to her classes today because Dad's mostly having tests.
Her birthday is later this week, so Jonathan happened to have her present with him - he was supposed to have dinner with them last night. He did, but not in the way they'd expected. We found a kosher cookbook called Enlitened Cooking (note spelling) - a really beautiful cookbook with diabetics in mind. Which meant that there was something for her to read. She's already found the cheesecake recipes. :)
Because waiting around a hospital *is* really boring.
