So, what did I learn?
May. 25th, 2006 10:36 pmWell, lots. One is that people like polls, and if you get listed on
metafandom, you'll get a hundred people over night. (And I appreciate every one of them. Thank you,
fairestcat!)
Most of this data is still raw.
A lot of people think their fandoms are on crack, but I think we're working on different definitions of crack. I'll get to that later.
A lot of people are born slashers. Others got a moment of self-knowledge. Still others had it thrust upon them. And then there are those who stumbled on it by mistake. And some simply don't remember.
Most people are not in their first fandoms. Out of 193 people, the biggest gateway drug seems to be HP, with Highlander, TOS, TPM and TS virtually tied. Also uncompiled but frequent - Buffy/Angel and XFiles (and I should have had those in the main poll.) Blake's 7 made a fairly respectable showing.
SGA was no one's first fandom. I find that significant and helpful. On the other hand, while I haven't compiled that yet, it is fairly popular now, as is Due South, which was a gateway drug for some.
And for a lot of people, the whole coming home aspect (people! Like me!) is very important.
This was very helpful and a lot of fun, and thank you *all*.
