Where was I?

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
I was 17 days old. My mom was feeding me. Yes, actual food. They had weird ideas then.

2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I was a junior in high school. I remember the new reports.

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I was in college, commuting from home. I had the greatest schedule - no morning classes, and I was watching the shuttle launch. I'd turned away from the screen...

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
Was watching the World Series, which was when it happened. I remember all the sports reporters having to report real news for a change, and many doing a decent job.

5. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)
Just before I met my husband. I absolutely remember this.

6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
Oh, yes. I'd spent the day before fasting, and the evening before in a prayer service for Israel. I was also deep in wedding plans, and my husband's Israeli brother-in-law was unable to attend in March.

7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
It was a Friday night. I didn't even hear about it until the next evening.

8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
Oh, God, yes. I cried. It was awful.

9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
I heard the news. My mom called.

10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
Up that night, and in shock.

11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
I'm ashamed to say I hadn't heard..

12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I walked into work, having just woken up. My boss' s assistant told me about a plane crashing into the WTC. I knew it couldn't be an accident - that's the very reason planes don't fly over Manhattan. And I spent the day online because there was no work to be done.

And my husband heard the first plane crash, but had no idea what was going on, or why his brother called him so frantically. And then the phones died.
